About Dr Julia De Groot

Dr Julia De Groot has a strong clinical focus on skin cancer medicine and surgery. She provides comprehensive skin checks, diagnostic biopsies, non-surgical treatments, and advanced skin cancer procedures. Julia is committed to early detection of cancer and effective treatments, with a patient-centred approach grounded in safety, precision, and clear communication.
In addition to her focus on skin cancer, she offers dedicated services in women's health (including contraception, menopause, and pregnancy care), children’s health, skin health,  and weight management. She offers consults at both Sundale Medical (Southport) and Logan Skin Clinic.
Julia completed her medical studies at the University of Queensland and Griffith University, and has a broad clinical foundation built on extensive hospital experience in general and vascular surgery, prior to entering general practice. She also holds further qualifications in medical research, medical education, and children’s health. Dr Julia is passionate about delivering high-quality, holistic care and empowering patients through education, prevention, and evidence-based practice.

​Your Skin Journey

Taking care of your skin is a lifelong commitment. Here’s what to expect at each step in skin cancer detection and treatment.

1. Skin Check

• A full-body skin check is performed by your doctor using dermoscopy (a specialised magnifying light device).
• Any spots of concern can be photographed and stored securely on your medical file.
• Biopsies may be necessary, where a small sample of the spot is taken (under local anaesthetic) and sent to the pathology lab for diagnosis.

​2. Skin Cancer Treatment

• Depending on the results, your doctor will discuss surgical and non-surgical treatment options.
• You will be guided through the risks, benefits, healing time, and expected outcomes.
• You and your doctor will choose the best treatment option for your individual diagnosis, skin type, and preferences.

3. Post-treatment Care

• You will receive post-operative wound care, with advice on scar management and sun protection.
• Your results will be discussed you to confirm that the skin cancer has been completely removed/cured.
• Skin checks are recommended every 12 months, or sooner if you have risk factors. New or changing spots should be assessed earlier.
